Are you one of the 9.2 Million people who are collecting Social Security Disability benefits?
If you are, then there are a few things you should know.
Most people are eligible for Medicare on the first day of the 25th month after their benefits start. (exceptions are people with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), they are eligible after a 5-month waiting period or first day of the 6th month
The monthly cost of Medicare Part B for most people is $164.90 in 2023, and if you have worked and paid into your Social Security for at least 10 years, your Medicare Part A would be $0.00 per month. (If you are a spouse and have not worked, you can collect the same benefits off of your spouse’s payment into Social Security)
Am I eligible for anything other than Traditional Medicare? If you are under the age of 65 in Indiana, you can get a Medicare Advantage plan. Most plans have $0.00 monthly premiums and give you extra benefits, including Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. You are not eligible for a Medicare Supplement plan in Indiana until you have turned 65.
There is also a program through Medicaid that you may qualify for called an MSP (Medicare Savings Program) and if approved, the state will pay your Medicare Part B premium every month and give you a Low-Income Subsidy for your prescriptions which means that most prescriptions will have $0.00 co-pay.
Perfiniti Insurance Licensed Agents can help you to find a plan that will give you the most benefits at the lowest cost, or help to apply for your “MSP” with the state so that your Medicare Part B premium will be paid for. We are licensed with most local and national carriers in Indiana so that we can find the perfect “fit” for your Medicare needs.
