PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY IS OVER! NOW WHAT DO I DO?

If you have your States Medicaid, as well as Medicare, there is a possibility you could lose your Medicaid now that the Public Health Emergency is ending.

Starting in April of 2023 Medicaid is beginning its re-determination for the Medicare Savings Programs (QMB, SLMB and QI), HIP and Traditional Medicaid. In many cases, this will be done automatically with information the State will collect called “Data Matching” and they may send you a letter asking you to verify some or all of the information they collect. Be sure to read the letter carefully and be prepared to follow up with the State on the verifications they are asking for. (Income, household composition, and/or bank statements to name a few). If you are over 65 and still have HIP benefits, you will be losing that coverage because the HIP program is for people age 19 to 64.

If you receive a letter from the FSSA (Family and Social Services Administration) that the State has denied your ability to continue receiving benefits, you now qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to get into the best Medicare plan for you. The best plan would be the one that gives you a low Maximum out of Pocket, is no cost to you, covers your doctors and will have the lowest out of pocket costs on your prescriptions. If you have LIS (Low Income Subsidy) for your prescriptions, you will be able to keep that since that program goes through Medicare which is a Federal program.

The good news is, there is help for you to navigate the troubled waters of Medicaid. Perfiniti Insurance is here for you to help with your redetermination, switching your HIP to a Medicare Savings Program, and getting you into a Medicare plan that will help lower your out of pocket costs.
